John R. Starr, Inc. has developed comprehensive databases, which detail, by geographic region and by technology, the capacities and economics of most of the nonwoven production lines in the world. We follow new capital investments, line upgrades and modifications, as well as new technology developments. In conjunction with the underlying technology trends, we monitor general economic factors and end use market trends and growth. Our scope encompasses raw materials, nonwovens processes, in- and off-line treatments, converting and market/end product applications.
Nonwoven process technology can be segmented into two areas – web formation and web consolidation. Web formation is defined as creating a loosely combined sheet structure, typically with fibers or filaments, which are consolidated (bonded) through any number of web methods. Types of formation and consolidation processes are summarized below.
Nonwoven Processes
Web Formation
Spunbonded and Spunmelt Composites
Melt Blown
Carded
Wet Laid
Airlaid
Porous Film
|
Web Consolidation
Thermal Bonded
Resin or Chemical Product
Spunlaced or Hydroentangled
Thru-Air Bonded
Needlepunched
Stitch-bonded
